It has finally happened. Forbidden Sea is offically featured in the summer 2010 Scholastic catalog our library just recieved. It makes it seem more real, somehow, seeing my book in a catalog.
As the day of my book's release draws ever near, I find myself very interested in how people purchase their books. Recently a friend of mine took the time to explain the strange mystery that is Amazon rankings and I discovered that they pretty much don't tell you a whole lot when it comes right down to it. So I've decided to ask all of you expert book purchasers out there how do you buy your books? Online? Which sites? Or do you like going into a bookstore personally to pick up your copies? Which stores do you prefer? At the library I work for, most of our books are ordered from Baker and Taylor. But we do use other providers as well. The other thing I'd like to know is how early in advance do you like to purchase your books? Really early or right after they come out? Or do you like to wait and see reviews of books or check them out of a library first before making a purchase?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Congrats on the feature! Personally, I prefer in store purchases. This is for a number of reasons: I have the book instantly, if they have it. And probably and mostly importantly for me, I can inspect the book. I have a real bad case of OCD when it comes to my books. They do not have to be in absolutely perfect condition, but I want the best looking copy they have. My books are my babies, so I want them looking as best they can :).
As for which stores I shop at, we have Barnes and Noble, Books a Million, and Borders around me. Generally, I prefer BN due to their closeness, but will go to the other stores if they have what I want.
I will shop online from time to time. When I do, it is generally Amazon or Book Depository. I really love BD because you can find some great deals and they have free shipping to most places in the world.
As to how far in advance I purchase the book, it really depends. I rarely ever pre-order books since most of the time I can get the book shortly after its release. Generally, I prefer PB to HC due to the pricing.. but will buy a HC if it is a book that I am just dying to read. If my library has the HC, I will definitely get the book from there and then if I love it.. I will usually wait until the PB to buy it.

When I preorder books, I always use Amazon. Sometimes I buy books online from Amazon. The rest of the time I buy from Barnes and Noble or Borders.
Personally, I like (if possible) to go to the bookstore and get the book. I like looking through it and holding it in my hands before I buy it. If the book isn't available, I go straight to amazon.com.

I love to get my books from stores or from book fairs. I will also order them online (if I can keep track of when they will be delivered, than wait by the door for the delivery).
I love the feel of a good book in my hands so that I can dive right in for the wonderful stories.

I have a Kindle, so I get a lot of ebooks online. But I go to a lot of book signings to support my author friends, and it seems I just can't walk out of a bookstore without buying something.
I rarely pre-order a book. Mostly, I get it soon after it comes out.
I refer Amazon because of free shipping if you spend 25$ or more, and they're always cheaper than anywhere else. I do sometimes splurge at Borders if they have an awesome coupon, but usually I just browse. Because of budget contraints, :) I like to read it first and then buy it if I like it. Although there are a few I buy right away - the Skulduggery books, or the Theodosia books...I want to get the Enola Holmes books too, but I don't mind if those are in paperback.
